Tan Shijie completed his Masters of Fine Arts at the New York University’s TISCH Asia School. His first short, For Two, was in competition at the 66th Venice Film Festival. In 2012, his short film The Hole won Best Fiction, Best Director, Best Script and Best Sound at the 3rd Singapore Short Film Awards. His latest short film Not Working Today was awarded Best Singapore Short Film at the Singapore International Film Festival in 2014. Shijie’s first feature Distance, co-directed with Xin Yukun (China) and Sivaroj Kongsakul (Thailand), opened the Golden Horse Film Festival in 2015.
