What is this about?

This half day session with ThinkPlace provides a hands-on introduction to the key principles of user centric design, bringing to life the process of identifying innovation areas through user research and crafting customer-centric digital solutions via real-life examples and exercises.

Developers sometimes fall into the trap of creating digital solutions that they assume people want. However, people need solutions that better meet their requirements. They want their interactions with the services that they use to be more intuition, simple and value adding. 

Design thinking is a powerful approach that has been embraced by organisations that seek to unlock new opportunities and transform organisations based on the real needs of customers. It is about shifting from earning profits based on what we can do to designing for human beings and outcomes that matter to them.

This half day programme will introduce to participants:
How design thinking can help organisations be more customer-centric in what they do even in technology and digital-centric solutions. 
- Introduce the end to end experience of a design thinking process
- Provide insights to a human-centred approach to unearth unmet needs of your customers,
- Gain inspiration on the value of low resolution protoyping to test early and learn quickly

Workshop Outline

2.00PM WHAT IS DESIGN THINKING?

Overview of the design thinking approach, methods and why it is different.

 

2.15PM OBSERVING, LISTENING AND ENGAGING PEOPLE

What is ethnographic research? How do I observe the users? How do I engage with my customers?

 

3.15PM BREAK

 

3.30PM MAKING SENSE

How do I make sense of users' needs and represent users' experiences?

 

4.00PM IDEATION AND PROTOTYPING

How is a prototyping approach different from how we might normally work? Teams will learn a few ideation principles and build a paper prototype of their digital solution.

 

5.00PM PITCHING

Teams will pitch their prototypes to one another as a way to round of the day

 

5.15PM REFLECTIONS

Summarising the key concepts of design thinking and how ICM companies can consider embedding design thinking, and what the potential pitfalls are.
