The SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme is a work-learn programme that gives fresh graduates1 from polytechnics and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) a head-start in careers related to their discipline of study. It provides them with more opportunities, after graduation, to build on the skills and knowledge they acquired in school, and better supports their transition into the workforce.

Participating employers can recruit local fresh talent, within three years of graduation or the Operationally Ready Date for National Servicemen and prepare them to take up suitable job roles. Participants in the programme can look forward to a structured career progression pathway within the organisation.

This programme is designed in collaboration with industry to ensure relevance to employers and the growth of the sector. Since 2015, the SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme has been introduced in 25 sectors, including Aerospace, Biomedical Sciences, Food Services, Games Development, Healthcare, Hotel, Infocomm Technology and Retail.

In addition to existing SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programmes leading to part-time Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas and Specialist Diplomas of the polytechnics, and Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) certificates and Diplomas, we will also be introducing a new SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme for ITE graduates leading to the ITE Technical Diploma. Who is it for?

Individuals



The SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme is for Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents who are within three years of either graduation from the ITE and polytechnics or the Operationally Ready Date for National Servicemen.

Employers



The SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme is also for companies, societies and non-profit organisations that are registered or incorporated in Singapore.

How will I benefit?

Employers

  • You will be able to groom and retain suitable talent with the relevant skills and aptitude to meet the needs of your company.
  • You will also receive a grant of up to $15,0005 per individual3 placed in the SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme to defray the costs of developing and providing structured on-job-training and to encourage them to set out career progression pathways.

2 The industry-recognised qualifications/certificates will vary from sector to sector, and from job to job. They may include Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) qualifications, or qualifications issued by the polytechnics such as Advanced/Specialist Diplomas

How does it work?

Individuals



You will be matched with a job related to your discipline of study and undergo a 12- to 18-month structured training programme, depending on the sector and job requirements. The programme includes facilitated learning, on-the-job training and work-based projects, to allow you to deepen your skill sets at the workplace. Articulation pathways into degree programmes are also available in selected sectors. Graduates from selected SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programmes can be considered for advanced standing or credit exemption for the relevant degree programmes, subject to meeting the course entry requirements. Assigned mentors at the company will guide you and provide support in your continual skills development. You will also enjoy a well-structured career progression pathway, in line with the company’s talent development plan. At the end of the programme, you will receive an industry-recognised certification and potential wage progression or career advancement based on performance.

Suitable candidates will be matched with a job related to their field of study and undergo structured on-the-job training and mentorship in your company. They will also benefit from a well-structured career development pathway and guidance from mentors who will support their continual skills development, through your company’s talent development plan.
