Thean-jeen is one of the most prolific writer-directors and showrunners working in the Singapore independent production industry today. His award-winning television productions include AlterAsians (Asian Television Award, Best Single Drama or Telemovie and a New York Festivals Finalist for Best Directing), The Singapore Short Story Project (Asian Television Award, Best Drama Series), The Pupil (two Asian Television Awards), and Zero Calling (Asian Television Award and a Silver Remi for Best Miniseries, WorldFest Houston International Film Festival).

His production, The Hush, received nominations in four categories at the Asian Television Awards, for Best Drama Series, Best Direction (Fiction) and Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor In A Leading. Feature films he has written and directed include the Malaysia-Singapore co-production Homecoming (2011), the satire Everybody’s Business (2013), and horror Bring Back The Dead (2015), which won the Platinum Remi for Best Fantasy/Horror Feature Film at the 49th WorldFest Houston International Film Festival. A Simple Wedding, a romantic comedy, will be released in late end-2018.

Thean-jeen was also the first director to occupy Discovery Networks Asia’s Documentary Director’s Chair, a crossover programme for film and television filmmakers who have built a reputation for innovative, high-quality filmmaking to produce documentary work for Discovery Channel’s global network. A summa cum laude (First Class honours equivalent) graduate of Boston University’s School of Broadcasting and Film, he has also been featured on the Straits Times’ Power List in Entertainment, a barometer of the top ten movers and shakers in the local media industry.

He is currently the Managing Director of Weiyu Films.
