6th ScreenSingapore: Setting the Tone of Asia's Rising Content Industry
The 6th edition of ScreenSingapore and the 17th edition of Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF) ended on a high note, with a record-breaking showing by 5,383 attendees. Based on exhibitor feedback collated to date, over US$244 million worth of deals and partnerships were estimated to have been facilitated.

Partnerships and deals were announced at the event, such as Aurora Media Holdings (Aurora), one of Southeast Asia’s leading media and entertainment incubation, investment and management outfit, which signed a multi-picture development and production financing agreement with leading Los Angeles-based global sales and marketing agency Kathy Morgan International (KMI).
The deal will match Aurora’s recently established USD30 million content fund with KMI’s slate of international projects in development and the company’s worldwide distribution prowess. The agreement also installs KMI’s President, Kathy Morgan, into Aurora’s advisory board.

Top 15 finalist projects for SAFF 2016

The Southeast Asian Film Financing (SAFF) project returned with its second edition, facilitating meetings and interactions between filmmakers with upcoming projects and potential buyers, film financiers and distributors to help bring the projects to fruition.
15 projects were shortlisted instead of the 10 from the previous edition due to the overwhelming response from Southeast Asian filmmakers. “With the increase of shortlisted project to 15 this year, more people can benefit from the SAFF.” says Chan Gin Kai, Executive Producer of Silver Media Group and President of SAAVA.

Following the few days of live pitching at the second SAFF Project Market, Bea Tanaka and Yasu Tanaka (Malaysia) from 42nd Pictures won the Aurora Producing Award for “Terbalik”, while Hang Trinh (Vietnam) from Skyline Media received the Imaginex Studios Audio Post Production Award for “Mamafia”.
With the Aurora Producing Award, “Terbalik” will receive an investment of S$20,000 towards the production of their project from Aurora Media Holdings, one of Southeast Asia’s leading media and entertainment asset incubation, investment and management vehicles. In addition, the Imaginex Studios Audio Post Production Award awarded to “Mamafia”, comprises a full audio post-production package worth S$50,000 for the feature film.

The SAFF conferences saw some 30 luminaries who spoke on the theme of New Independent: Producing for a Globalised Film Economy, addressing present-day concerns faced by filmmakers in the region, including film financing, strategies for generating return-on-investment (ROI), the perfect pitch package, and trends in the regional industry.
Participants gained insight through talks such as New Feature Building the Film Economy: The Trends and Movement Ahead featuring ASEAN panellists rounding up the biggest news and shake-ups in the regional media industry, in which speaker Justin Deimen of Aurora Media Holdings shared that “Singapore is a country that has Asian values with a western taste.”
