Over the past three days, the Singapore Pavilion saw over 20 new announcements and signings – reflective of the industry’s increased focus on content development, online venture, and cross-border partnerships. Viddsee launches Viddsee Studios, partners IMDA for Original Content Deal

Video entertainment platform Viddsee announced the launch of Viddsee Studios as it ventures into original content creation to foster an ecosystem for digital content creation – this new arm will be headed by local Singaporean filmmaker and producer, Kenny Tan. It also announced a partnership with Singapore’s Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) as part of a public service content initiative to develop original content with local content creators.

Mediacorp Audio Post clinched a deal with Zhe Jiang ZHHY Studios Co. Ltd to produce the sound effect design and Auro3D mixing for Lanling The God of War – a 3D animation movie due for release in early 2019. A first in China, the movie will be using virtual shooting and pure CG effects technology to create life-like characters in the movie.


Singapore’s Taipan Films partners Beijing Hua Cheng Media Group in China with Content Slate

Singapore-based movie company Taipan Films is venturing into the China market with their tie-up with China’s newly-minted Beijing Hua Cheng Media Group in a RMB100 million agreement that will see the production of a slate of up to 5 projects over the next 3 years. Both Taipan Films and Hua Cheng Media Group will co-fund and co-produce the projects with Hua Cheng Media Group, responsible for distribution in China.


‘GROOM MY ROOM’ kids series and format sold to HTV3 Vietnam

Ying Group has successfully sold the Groom My Room series and format to Vietnam’s HTV3, a children’s edutainment channel owned by Purpose Media. It is the first Singapore kids TV format to be sold to Vietnam.

Singapore-based Hiverlab, a pioneering info-comm media technology innovation and content production company, released two long-term crowd-sourcing initiatives at ATF 2017, in the format of immersive multi-user curated storytelling experiences. The two projects – namely Project Timescape and Project Eyes On Habitat, feature the latest collaborations between Hiverlab and its project partners around the world.


mm2 invests in New Talents & IPs

mm2 Entertainment announced that it would focus on developing new regional talents and Singapore IPs in 2018. They will be investing in projects driven by new regional talents, including Hell Hole《鬼地方》(Singapore) by Singapore director Sam Loh; In My Heart 《想见你》(Malaysia) by emerging director Teddy Chin and starring Taiwan actor Charles Tu; and feature films by 3 MovieMakers Award Winning directors (Hong Kong). It also announced that iconic Singapore IPs, ‘Mr Kiasu 怕输先⽣’ and ‘Liang Xi Mei 梁细妹’ will make their feature film debuts in 2018. mm2 Entertainment announced that it would focus on developing new regional talents and Singapore IPs in 2018. The Wayang Kids hits silver screens in Singapore on 8 March 2018

The Wayang Kids – co-produced by Singapore’s Brainchild Pictures and China’s Beijing Film Academy – Youth Film Studio is set to be released theatrically on 8 March 2018 in Singapore. The film is supported by the Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism, and is the first Singapore-China family movie co-production.


BPI (Indonesia) and SAAVA (Singapore) form strategic alliance to create inter-regional creative producing and media investment network

Two of Southeast Asia’s leading content producers’ associations, the Indonesian Film Board, or Badan Perfilman Indonesia (“BPI”) and the Southeast Asian Audio-Visual Association (“SAAVA”), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MoU”) today at ScreenSingapore 2017. Through this alliance, BPI and SAAVA will jointly promote the filmed entertainment, digital content and media production industries in Indonesia and around Southeast Asia.

Singapore / Okinawan film, Jimami Tofu, sold out its World Premiere at the 37th Hawaii International Film Festival, with more than 1,200 seats sold over 5 screenings. The feature, by BananaMana Films, also took home the Audience Choice Award at the conclusion of the festival. It was also announced that the film had secured theatrical distribution in Taiwan in early 2018, and finalises a distribution deal for China. Jimami Tofu was shot in Okinawa, Japan and Singapore in 2016, and is a homage to Okinawa and its traditional Ryukyu cuisine.


BeachTV sets up Joint Venture in Philippines and launches new DJ reality series, RAVE WAVE

Singapore-based BeachTV scored two deals at the Media Investors Summit 2017. The first is a joint venture with Philippines based M.D. Allego Music and Arts Production to set up BeachTV Philippines. The second deal sees BeachTV collaborating with AOS Collective and 108 Media to produce RAVE WAVE, a brand new music reality format that searches for the next big Disc Jockey (DJ).
