Singapore, 13 June 2000| For Immediate Release

The Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore has won the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) Award for Excellence in the Public Sector. This is in recognition of IDA's nation-wide efforts to help Singaporeans harness the power of infocomm technology.

The award is administered by WITSA for its inaugural IT Excellence Awards Programme, and was presented at the 2000 World Congress on IT1 in Taipei on June 13.

This prestigious international award program honours those with exceptional achievements in the application of information technology. Awards are granted in three broad categories, each with their own specific criteria: Public Sector, Private Sector and Digital Opportunity.

"This is indeed a great honour - not only for IDA but also for our strategic partners whom we work closely with on various programmes. Without this strategic alliance, the Award would not have been possible," said Mrs Pam Soh, Deputy Director of Culture Promotion at IDA who received the Award on behalf of the organisation. She added, "It is a timely recognition of Singapore's efforts in dot-coming the people-sector and will certainly motivate us to further our efforts in bridging the digital divide."

IDA's Iinfocomm Culture Promotion initiatives are organised around the five key thrusts: Changing Mindsets; Accelerating Online Culture Adoption; Improving Accessibility, Nurturing eAmbassadors & eCommunities; and Developing Multilingual Content. Key culture promotion programmes include eCelebrations Singapore, Reuse PC Scheme, eAmbassador Scheme and the ONE Learning Place.
