The objectives of our participation include:
- Providing thought leadership on international ICT issues
- Assisting with international ICT policy formulation
- Facilitating and enhancing ICT collaborations with key partners
- Negotiating and drafting provisions for international ICT/postal regulatory instruments
- Forging and maintaining strong bilateral relationships
IMDA also aims to provide a conducive and pro-business environment, and seeks to eliminate common trade barriers through the negotiation of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs) to facilitate smoother trade and investment flows across the ICT industry.
As part of Singapore's effort to strengthen international relations, IMDA organises and hosts visits from counterparts Authorities, and engage them on wide ranging topics such as Singapore's ICT journey and Smart Nation initiative.
Annually, IMDA also organises the Infocomm Media Executive Programme (IMEP), an executive-level course designed for senior government policy-makers and telecoms regulators, catering to their specific needs. It covers topics such as Singapore's overall infocomm policy, regulatory approach, competition management framework, spectrum and resource management, telecoms licensing framework, interconnection, infrastructure sharing, as well as the Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network (NGNBN) and the Smart Nation Platform.

In addition, IMDA also organises the Ministerial Forum on ICT (Forum), a high-level dialogue for ICT Ministers from around the world to discuss key ICT trends, policies and regulations in a closed door meeting where attendance is strictly by invitation only. The Forum take places in conjunction with the annual Infocomm Media Business Exchange (imbX), usually held in the middle of the year. Invited ICT Ministers would interact and exchange views on a pre-determined ICT topic of keen interests.
IMDA also maintains three Geographic Focus Groups, namely the Middle East Operation, the Southeast Asia Operation and China Operation to provide in-depth market insights and focused efforts to the needs of the respective regions.
