Developing local drama production capabilities

Developing local drama production capabilities

JAN & FEB 16 ISSUE 32

Local production houses can now receive training in production from international media giant, HBO Asia. The MDA and HBO Asia recently announced a partnership to support, grow and develop drama production capabilities of the local media industry and talents.

The initiative, which spans a period of two years, will see HBO Asia working with local production houses and talents to develop and produce content. HBO Asia will also leverage local production facilities or locations for future HBO Asia Original productions.

Mr Jonathan Spink, CEO of HBO Asia, said, “With the pedigree of the HBO brand and our continuing development and production of Asian original shows, HBO Asia is in a unique position to impart skills and share knowledge with local companies and aspiring talents in Singapore to create premium entertainment for global audiences.”

Echoing his sentiments, Ms Angeline Poh, Assistant CEO of MDA (Industry), said, “We are excited to launch this partnership with HBO Asia to grow the pool of drama production talent in Singapore. Through the partnership with HBO Asia, promising producers will have the opportunity to work with industry veterans to develop dramas for international audiences.”

Last December, HBO Asia organised the first training workshop in a series to come, which was conducted by HBO’s Los Angeles-based, Mr Jay Roewe, Senior Vice President for West Coast Productions. Several local production companies gained first-hand insight to HBO’s complete production process, from pitching of an idea through development and practical production to final delivery.

To find out when the next training workshop will take place, follow MDA’s Facebook page for updates.
