Online content players get more room to create

Online content players get more room to create

JAN & FEB 16 ISSUE 32

Those looking to hone their skills in creating and marketing more engaging online content will get a helping hand, thanks to a new partnership between MDA and major industry players.

The MDA-led initiative, which involves key partners such as AdobeAutodesk, Brand New Media, Cloudstringers, Dailymotion, Victorious and Maker Studios, will see a new facility called “Creators’ Space” being set up at at PIXEL building, a building developed by JTC in one-north.

Creators’ Space will offer programmes and resources in two key areas – a) online content creation capabilities, and b) digital services, technology and platforms.

For example, Creators’ Space will offer training programmes and workshops in areas such as online content production, monetisation, and fan engagement. The programmes will be conducted by qualified media professionals and international experts, and each of the partners will contribute insights related to their area of expertise.

Creators’ Space will also provide access to a range of video production resources, including hardware and software such as video editing, cloud storage and analytics tools. The available resources will equip creators with the necessary capabilities to execute their work efficiently and produce high quality professional videos.

Mr Damien Bray, Global Development Director of Brand New Media, education partner of Creators’ Space, says that they are excited to bring their knowledge and capabilities to local content creators. “We will be looking to impart our knowledge across the full spectrum of content from developing strategy to ideation to creating process through the production process itself, and to teach people how to take your content and distribute it… commercialise it, and how to make a living out of the content industry.”

The announcement was made at the sidelines of the Asia TV Forum and Market on 1 December 2015 by Minister for Communications and Information, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, during his opening speech at the trade market. At his walkabout of the exhibition floor, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim and Dr Janil Puthucheary, Minister of State, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Communications and Information, made a stop at the Singapore Pavilion to witness the symbolic check-in to the new PIXEL building by Mr Gabriel Lim, CEO of MDA, and the seven Creators’ Space partners.

Mr. René Rechtman, Head, International, Maker Studios (USA), said: “We want more of the local talents to join the space, to learn from bigger YouTubers and to grow global.”

As Creators’ Space first partner, Maker Studios launched Southeast Asia’s first Maker Bootcamp together with MDA in Singapore last May, where over 30 aspiring local online content creators had the chance to collaborate and learn from some of the biggest stars in online video. International talents such as The Fung Brothers and Timothy DeLaGhetto were there with Singapore’s Night Owl CinematicsWahBananaMunah & Hirzi and Shigga Shay.

Creators’ Space at PIXEL will be ready in the second quarter of 2016. Meanwhile, watch video highlights from that day to hear the full interviews with the Creators’ Space partners.
