MCI Awards Scholarships, SkillsFuture Study Awards and Internship Opportunities for Infocomm Media and Design Sectors

Singapore, 13 October 2016

Minister for Communications and Information Dr Yaacob Ibrahim today gave out almost 1,000 awards to develop Singaporeans’ potential in the infocomm media (ICM) and design sectors.

Of these, close to 800 students from post-secondary education institutions were honoured as the pioneer intake of the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA)’s Industry Preparation for Pre-Graduates (iPREP) programme. The programme launched in April this year, aims to provide students with opportunities for industry internships and mentorships, so as to equip them with relevant skillsets and work experiences in preparation for employment after completing their studies.

In addition, Minister Yaacob also presented 33 IMDA scholarships to enable students to pursue their studies in various areas in information and communications technology (ICT), and media at polytechnics and universities, here and overseas. The scholarships - Infocomm Polytechnic (iPoly) Scholarship, Media Education Scholarship (MES), and National Infocomm Scholarship (NIS) - are awarded by IMDA, while the National Cybersecurity Postgraduate Scholarship (NCPS) is jointly awarded by IMDA and the National Research Foundation (NRF).

140 SkillsFuture Study Awards were also given out across the ICM and design sectors. The SkillsFuture Study Awards will boost the upskilling of our workforce in the infocomm media and design sectors.

By recognising and supporting our students and working professionals in their quest for knowledge and skills acquisition, MCI aims to encourage more to embrace lifelong learning and build expertise and skills in infocomm media and design. These awards underscore the commitment that MCI and its agencies have in nurturing talent to build up Singapore’s capabilities to support a creative, knowledge and innovation-driven digital future.
