Digital TV Starter Kit application extended to March 2019

SINGAPORE – 21 December, 2018: To assist more households to switch over to Digital TV (DTV), the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) will extend the deadline for eligible households to apply for the DTV Starter Kit by three months, from 31 December 2018 to 31 March 2019.

Announced earlier this year, the DTV Starter Kit is an expansion of the DTV Assistance Scheme (DTVAS) which was introduced in 2014. All Singaporean HDB households who do not subscribe to Pay TV services are eligible for the DTV Starter Kit.

Each eligible household can either redeem an indoor antenna and digital set-top box for free (including free delivery and installation), or enjoy $100 off selected DTV equipment at participating electronics stores.

To date, more than 450,000 eligible households have switched to DTV using their DTV Starter Kits or through the DTVAS. They are part of the nine in ten1 Singapore households who are already receiving DTV either over-the-air, or through their Pay TV subscription. Many of these households have been helped through more intense outreach efforts that IMDA and its partners, including grassroots organisations, voluntary welfare organisations, government agencies and Mediacorp, conducted over the past year. These outreach activities include heartland carnivals, mobile pop-up counters, and door-to-door house visits in Singapore’s neighbourhoods.

IMDA would like to urge the remaining eligible households to redeem their Digital Starter Kits before 31 March 2019 by visiting www.digitaltv.sg or calling the DTV hotline at 1800-DTV-HELP.

IMDA will also step up its efforts to ensure that households can easily receive help when Singapore’s analogue TV transmission ceases on 1 January 2019 at 2359 hours. IMDA will set up DTV Support Counters in all 106 Community Clubs/Centres across the island from 26 to 31 December 2018, and 2 to 6 January 2019, from 2pm to 9pm. At these counters, households can redeem their DTV Starter Kits and have them installed on the same day2 or obtain assistance on DTV-related questions. Households can also self-collect their DTV Starter Kits at 16 of these DTV Support Counters, and at 11 M1 Shop outlets, across the island.

1 As of October 2018
2 Subject to installation slot availability
