Singapore, 3 June 1998 | For Immediate Release

To celebrate the commercial launch of Singapore ONE, a nine-day Singapore ONE festival will be held from Saturday 6 June to give the public the opportunity to experience a whole new world of advanced interactive and multimedia applications based on leading edge broadband technology.

Singapore ONE is Singapore's nationwide broadband network that delivers advanced interactive, multimedia applications and services to homes, schools and businesses throughout the country. These applications are designed to cater to a broad spectrum of users - from students to professionals and businesses.

Singapore ONE applications include entertainment and news on-demand, distance learning, on-line shopping, music downloads, multi-user games, video conferencing, video e-mail, and on-line educational materials. The network's high capacity and high speed broadband platform enable these applications to carry content that is richer, more exciting and stimulating, more interactive and truly multimedia compared to common delivery platforms like the internet or CD-ROMs.

"Singapore ONE's ability to deliver advanced applications better and faster than anything currently available means that users can truly experience a whole new world, one that can only enhance the overall quality of life. We invite the public to come to the Festival events to experience the benefits of Singapore ONE for themselves," said Mr Ng Kin Yee, Assistant Director, New Media Cluster, of the National Computer Board.

To reach as many people as possible, Singapore ONE Festival activities will be held at various locations, including shopping malls, community centres, schools, and libraries (please see Festival calendar).
