Singapore, 3 December 2001 | For Immediate Release

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) has today released an industry consultation paper on the proposed policy approach to 3G infrastructure sharing in Singapore. The aim of this paper is to gather views and comments from the industry and public on the role of 3G infrastructure sharing in the deployment and rollout of 3G networks and services in Singapore by licensed 3G operators.

This feedback will help IDA better formulate the most appropriate policy approach for 3G infrastructure sharing. It will also help IDA to assess and determine if needed, who, how, when, and for how long, to allow infrastructure sharing, as well as the criteria to use to assess and monitor the type and extent of infrastructure sharing amongst licensed 3G operators.

The issuance of this consultation paper is part of IDA's on-going efforts to provide a platform for the industry and public to share their views on the appropriate policies and regulatory frameworks to be put in place, taking into account market industry trends and developments.

All views and comments should be submitted in writing to reach IDA on or before 12 noon, 1 February 2002. IDA will consider inputs submitted and make its policy decision thereafter. IDA will target to announce its policy decision by the second quarter of 2002.

The consultation paper can be downloaded from the "Policies & Regulation" section, under "Papers"/ "Consultation Papers" of the IDA website at www.imda.gov.sg.
