The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) is participating in Information & Communication Technology (ICT) India 2002 to be held in Mumbai (February 6-9, 2002).
Singapore will be the focus country at ICT India 2002 and visitors can expect to have a snapshot of Singapore's thriving Infocomm industry with companies such as Pacific Internet, Singapore Telecom and Sakon Singapore participating.
Apart from the exhibition, a half-day conference to discuss the Singapore-India ICT partnership will be jointly organised by IDA, Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) and Manufacturers Association for Information Technology (MAIT). This conference aims to showcase success stories of Singapore-India ICT partnerships as well as further cultivate the already close bilateral relationship.
IDA also announces the appointment of Mohan Mirwani as IDA's Country Manager for India. Based in IDA's Bangalore office, Mr Mirwani will play a key role in further facilitating Infocomm-based alliances between Singapore and India.
Mr Mirwani brings with him wide ranging experience in both the government and private sectors, and will lend his extensive experience in promoting closer ties between the Infocomm industries of Singapore and India.
Trade between Singapore and India continues to grow significantly. According to NASSCOM, India's software exports to the Asia-Pacific region will touch $770 million this fiscal year, and increase to $6-7 billion by 2008, of which Singapore will constitute $60 million.
Singapore's annual investment into India now stands at over US$1 billion a year. Singapore has also recently opened The India Centre in Singapore, which is aimed at developing a hub to aggregate Indian Companies and showcase the Indian competencies to the rest of the world.
ICT India 2002
ICT India 2002 is one of the largest and most comprehensive ICT industry platform, jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Manufacturers Association for Information Technology (MAIT) and National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM).
ICT India 2002 is a one-stop-shop for accessing and delivering state-of-the art technologies and products in the ICT sector. The event will provide a broad platform for delivering diverse content in traditional as well as new emerging technologies born by the convergence of the information and communications sector.
Spread over 20,000 sq metres of area hosting over 600 booths, ICT India 2002 will showcase key technologies and trends across three primary sectors which include Telecom and Broadcasting; Internet and E-Commerce and IT Hardware, Software solutions & Services. A series of power packed seminars addressing user and industry issues will complement the exhibition.
The event is expected to attract over 2,00,000 visitors from India and overseas. Some of the leading participants at the event include Tata Consultancy Services, Network Solutions, Compaq, Samsung, Amadeus, NIIT, Tata Infotech, Wipro, Bharti BT, Ericcson, Nokia and Dell.

MOHAN MIRWANI

Mohan Mirwani is the Country Manager of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore's India office located in Bangalore.
Mohan brings with him a dynamic combination of Pan-Asian high-level management expertise coupled with a solid background in internetworking. An IT veteran with over 16 years of experience, Mohan has established relationships in both the government and private sectors. He has been at the forefront of many national and industry developments and initiatives.
As Commercial Counselor and Regional Director, India for the Singapore Trade Development Board (TDB) he was instrumental in facilitating investments, trade and joint venture agreements between Singapore and Indian companies.
His prior appointments as Managing Director and Chief Business Development Officer, SilkRoute Ventures and Director, Corporate Development, Singapore Network Services (SNS) enabled him to promote and develop electronic commerce applications in Singapore and India and forge alliances with leading players to ensure leadership positioning in the internet industry.
Mohan was also formerly the Director for National Information Infrastructure of the IT2000 with the National Computer Board. As a key member of the National IT Standards Committee, he championed various IT standards, which were adopted by industry. He also championed the development of Island wide Broadband High Speed network for R&D, education and commercial use.
As a Network Consultant with HP and Digital Equipment, Mohan worked with large organisations and companies such as NTT, Beijing University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Singapore Telecoms and the Ministry of Defence where he was consulted on large scale IT projects involving pioneering networking technologies.
Mohan is a Physics Honours graduate and has a Masters in Technology Management from the National University of Singapore.
