Singapore, 10 June 2003| For Immediate Release

This programme under the Java TONE collaboration targets to assist 20 companies to achieve a total of S$20 million in export revenue over the next five years.

Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUNW) and the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) today announced the launch of the IDA-Sun Overseas Development Programme (ODP), a pillar of the S$100 million JAVA Tarik ONE (Java TONE) collaboration.

Speaking at the launch of the ODP programme, Leong Keng Thai, Acting CEO, IDA said, "IDA recognises the need for our local players to take advantage of overseas opportunities as a growth strategy. This is in line with the vision of Connected Singapore to leverage on the potential of Infocomm to generate business growth."

"Through the IDA-Sun Java TONE partnership, the ODP will boost the presence of local Java developers in the growing markets outside of Singapore. With ODP, local companies will leverage on Sun's existing worldwide network to accelerate their overseas market presence. The goal is to assist as many as 20 companies and to generate up to S$20 million in export revenue over the next five years. I am glad to see there are already five local companies on board the IDA-Sun ODP, each with its own strength and unique product proposition. This shows that our local companies are now bringing their successes in product development to a new level through participation in IDA-Sun Overseas Development Programme," he added.

The Java TONE collaboration was launched on 19 March, 2003 by Lam Chuan Leong, Chairman of IDA and Scott McNealy, Chairman, President and CEO of Sun Microsystems, Inc.

Lionel Lim, Vice President and Managing Director, Sun Microsystems, Asia South, said, "Sun has viewed its partnership with IDA, in the Java TONE collaboration, as a key enabler in Singapore's goal to be a net exporter of Java technologies. Java TONE will present many opportunities to create wealth for Singapore. In this latest stage of the partnership, falling under the ONE Market prong, Sun will act as a catalyst to accelerate local infocomm companies' go-to-market efforts overseas."

Under the Infocomm Local Industry Upgrading Programme (iLIUP) with IDA, Sun has provided technology transfer to over 30 local development companies, to accelerate the development of Java-based applications and solutions. The ODP will augment the benefits of the iLIUP programme by leveraging Sun's global networks to export these products and services overseas.

Greater China has been identified as the first region of focus for the ODP. In the next five years, China's information industry is estimated to maintain an annual growth rate of 20%. The numbers of computers connected to the Internet will reach 50 million and Internet users will top 200 million.

"With the largest mobile user base, the second largest Internet user base after the US, and an IT industry that's growing phenomenally, it is a market of great potential for our ODP partners. Sun is committed to providing our local infocomm enterprises a strong foothold in Greater China via the ODP," Mr Lim continued.

The first five local companies to participate in the ODP are Ecquaria Technologies, novaSPRINT, Peridot Health Systems, Stratech Systems and System Access.
