“Winning the NIA helped the company to gain credibility on the local stage and gave us confidence in knowing that our product is ready to take on the world."
- Mr Terrence Swee, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, muvee Technologies (2002 NIA Winner)

These are some sentiments echoed by past winners of Singapore’s highest accolade for infocomm innovation – The National Infocomm Awards (NIA). From generating interest of global companies, to forging partnerships that have advanced their winning solutions, the NIA has helped local companies establish a brand name for themselves by being a testimonial of their infocomm innovativeness, capability and credibility. Being the definitive award for the infocomm industry in Singapore, the NIA honours the ‘best of breed’ in infocomm innovation in Singapore and aims to inspire other industry players to pursue the world-class benchmark set by the winners.

“Infocomm innovation has a long history in Singapore and the success stories are many.  Organisations that have been at the forefront have been transformed and lifted to greater heights.  We want to recognise this excellence in infocomm innovation with the National Infocomm Awards, the industry’s highest accolade.  The Awards are a tribute to the innovators and we hope they will inspire others too,” said RADM(NS) Ronnie Tay, Chief Executive Officer, Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).

Now into its fourth year, the NIA is once again looking to recognise excellence in infocomm innovation and to crown new NIA champions. Awards remain open till 20 June 2008 for companies and organisations to submit their nominations online at the Awards website: www.nia.org.sg.  Winners will be honoured at a gala dinner scheduled in October 2008.

Since the inaugural NIA in 2002, local companies such as Activate Interactive, muvee Technologies, and e-Cop have made successful overseas inroads since winning the award in the Most Innovative Product or Service category. In 2007, Activate Interactive was appointed by China Unicom to be its mobile games platform developer and master content developer in China. Muvee Technologies’ Video production software has been sold in over 13 languages in retails stores in America, Europe and Japan, and is also embedded in millions of Nokia and LG camera phones. Closer to home, e-Cop was commissioned to build the Security Monitoring Centre for the Ministry of Communications of Brunei Darussalam and deployed its industry-leading security management solution for the SOC of Mumbai-based Allied Digital, a leading system integrator and IT infrastructure management services provider in India.

In the Most Innovative Use of Infocomm Technology award category, organisations such as the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, The Supreme Court and PSA Corporation have also been recognised for their innovative use of infocomm technology.

New Category for SMEs

This year, a new sub-category is created to recognise Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that have used infocomm innovatively to reap significant improvements in productivity and overall economic competitiveness. The Awards aim to garner strong commitment from SMEs to embrace the spirit of innovation and seize opportunities in the digital age.

Mr Pek Yew Chai, Chairman of SiTF said “For Singapore to maintain its competitive edge and remain relevant, we need to constantly tap on the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurial foresight to compete among the best in the world.  Awards of such nature will further enhance the innovations of the ICT industry. We are very excited with such efforts and will work closely with IDA to create even more new opportunities to grow the industry.”
