Singapore To Host Meetings For ICT Ministers And Regulators

13 June 2008 - ICT Ministers and telecom regulators will be meeting in Singapore next week to discuss issues relating to the development of broadband and next generation networks. Held in conjunction with the Infocomm Media Business Exchange (imbX), Asia's largest infocomm and media trade event, Singapore will host the imbX Ministerial Forum on ICT and the ASEAN Telecommunication Regulators' Council (ATRC) meeting.

ICT Ministers and telecom regulators will be meeting in Singapore next week to discuss issues relating to the development of broadband and next generation networks. Held in conjunction with the Infocomm Media Business Exchange (imbX), Asia's largest infocomm and media trade event, Singapore will host the imbX Ministerial Forum on ICT and the ASEAN Telecommunication Regulators' Council (ATRC) meeting.

Fourth imbX Ministerial Forum on ICT

Into its fourth year, the imbX Ministerial Forum is an annual high-level dialogue where ICT Ministers, senior officials and industry experts discuss key ICT trends, policies and regulations. This year, the theme of the Forum is "Broadband: Opportunities and Challenges" and it will be held on 17 June afternoon.

The Forum will be hosted by Dr Lee Boon Yang, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA). Ministers and senior officials from all the ASEAN countries together with Bhutan, the Maldives and Oman will be attending the Forum. The delegation list is in Annex A (18.58KB). The Ministers and industry leaders will explore opportunities and discuss the challenges arising from recent broadband developments around the world.

14th ATRC Meeting

Over 80 regulatory officials and industry players will meet to discuss regulatory issues related to interconnection, network security and next-generation networks at the 14th ATRC meeting. Hosted by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), the meeting will be attended by telecommunication regulators from the ASEAN nations and dialogue partners from China and Japan. The meeting will also explore the possibility of a stronger framework of co-operation. The three-day meeting will be officially opened by Minister Lee Boon Yang on 18 June at 9.00am.

In addition to the meetings, the visiting ministers, senior officials and regulators will also attend the opening ceremony of imbX on 17 June and other imbX events.
