Mr Chan Yeng Kit, Chief Executive Officer, Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore At Pacific Internet's 10th Anniversary Celebration on 10 October 2005.

Mr Kevin Lim, Managing Director, Pacific Internet Limited,
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good afternoon. It is my pleasure to join you today to commemorate Pacific Internet's 10th Anniversary.

First, I'll like to congratulate Pacific Internet on their achievements for the last 10 years. Today marks a milestone in the history of Internet developments in Singapore, as one of Singapore's first few ISPs crosses the 10-year mark.

In the short span of one decade, Pacific Internet has expanded from a local company to become a regional one. IDA is happy to see that a home-grown company like PacNet has expanded its operations into Hong Kong, the Philippines, Australia, Thailand, and Malaysia.

And PacNet is set to play an even greater role in the local Infocomm industry, being one of the 6 operators that have secured access rights to wireless broadband spectrum earlier this year.

IDA is highly encouraged by the strong interest in wireless broadband from service providers such as PacNet. Being the first ISP to carry out the Wireless Broadband pilot trials in Singapore and to launch SDSL broadband services, PacNet has gained valuable experience and expertise in offering broadband services.

With the deployment of wireless broadband access services, IDA expects greater broadband offerings for businesses and consumers, as competition in the local broadband market is re-invigorated. With PacNet's keen interest in broadband, I'm sure consumers and businesses can soon enjoy innovative and value-for-money services from PacNet.

Pacific Internet has indeed come a long way. From an R&D unit in the National University of Singapore in 1991, Pacific Internet is today a listed company on NASDAQ, with revenue of S$ 170 million in FY 2004 and more than 1000 staff worldwide.

IDA hopes that Pacific Internet will continue to grow and make Singapore's broadband and Internet scene a vibrant one.

Today also marks the launch of Pacific Internet's solution centre that Kevin has just shared with you. I look forward to visiting this facility with all of you.

Thank you.
