MDA Commissions A Cross-Cultural Concert To Celebrate Racial Harmony

Dated: 5 August 2004

To celebrate racial harmony, the Media Development Authority (MDA) has commissioned Pelayaran Muzika Nanyang (Nanyang Musical Voyage), a musical showcase that fuses two cultures.

Performed by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra at the Esplanade, this concert features a unique collaboration of Malay dance and music with Chinese orchestration, thus exemplifying the true meaning of cultural understanding and bonding within our multi- racial society. Local performers like singer Hazrul Nizam and the Sriwana dancers will be joined by Indonesian singer Dewi Yull and Malaysian guest conductor Chew Hee-Chiat to lend a regional feel to the concert.

Commissioned by the MDA at a total cost of $42,000, Pelayaran Muzika Nanyang is produced by Eaglevision Mediacorp TV12. Part One of the concert will be shown on 8 August 2004 at 9pm and Part Two on 9 August 2004 at 5pm.
