Rouge - Asia's First Regional TV Drama Series For Youth Premieres on MTV in Nine Countries

Dated: 6 October 2004

Rouge, Asia's first regional TV drama series will make its debut on MTV channels from 7 October 2004 to more than 25 million households across nine countries in Asia. Spanning Singapore to Guangzhou, Australia to Taiwan, it is the most anticipated series to hit TV screens this year.

Targeted at today's youth audience, Rouge is a 14-episode action-drama series featuring five actresses from Asia who were selected from more than 400 hopefuls. Starring Denise Laurel and Mariel Rodriguez from the Philippines, Desiree Ann Siahaan from Singapore, Pamela Fields from the US and Veronica Ngo from Vietnam, Rouge promises lots of heart-thumping and daredevil action as its five femmes fatale bring viewers into a world of suspense, intrigue, action and comedy.

With the young MTV generation audience in mind, Mega Media was responsible for the content development from pre- to post-production of the series. MTV was involved in marketing and carrying the series regionally. A large-scale project, the filming was completed within a tight four-month schedule. The majority of the shoots were located in Singapore with elaborate sets, and an exciting plot incorporating original sound tracks that serves to draw audiences closer to the action and drama.

Rouge is in line with Mega Media's strategy to work on regional and international productions. In recent years, we have been concentrating our efforts on co-productions and collaborations with regional and international partners," said Jonathan Foo, Managing Director of Mega Media. "This is demonstrated by our films and documentaries that have traveled to all corners of the world. We truly believe that our marketplace is the world and with each project, we hope to break into more markets and have our productions seen by a global audience," he said.

Frank Brown, President of MTV Networks Asia-Pacific said, "MTV is committed to bringing new and compelling content to the table that are relevant and appealing to our youth audience between 15 and 34 across Asia and beyond. This collaboration sets a new benchmark both in Singapore and Asia's production scene and we are proud to be part of an exciting pioneer project together with the great support from the MDA and Mega Media. With MTV Networks Asia's reach of over 150 million homes, this TV drama series will be the talk of the town and set a whole new tempo to the TV industry in Asia."

Commenting on Rouge, Mr Seto Lok Yin, Director Industry Development, MDA said, "We are pleased to participate in co-funding Rouge as part of our Media 21 blueprint to develop the Singapore media industry. Rouge provides a good platform for our talent to feature their works and showcase Singapore-made content and music on an international level."
