Singapore's presence will be felt at the world's leading international film market. For the first time ever, the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) and its Singapore Film Commission is setting up a Singapore Pavilion at the Marche Du Film 2004, ie Cannes Film Market. This is to showcase Singapore media companies internationally and assist them as they seek international markets for their products.
The Cannes Film Market, held from 12 to 22 May, will take place in Cannes, and is held in conjunction with the star-studded 57th annual Cannes Film Festival.
Three local production companies under the leadership of the MDA are making their first appearance at Cannes. They are: MediaCorp Raintree Pictures, Ground Glass Images and Hoods Inc Productions.
The Singapore Pavilion will bring these production companies together as a group to promote Singapore as a vibrant Global Media City, and market Singapore-produced films to an international marketplace. It is hoped that these productions will appeal to an international audience with their strong and uniquely Asian content. Besides coordinating meetings with distributors and buyers at the Cannes Film Market, the MDA will also be encouraging and facilitating co-productions possibilities between the Singapore and international companies.
At Cannes, the companies will be showcasing their films as well, especially new productions such as Rice Rhapsody and Perth - a project co-invested by the Singapore Film Commission and one of the Asian films nominated for this year's Singapore International Film Festival Silver Screen Awards.

Through our participation, we will bring Singapore made films to the world market and give our local companies valuable exposure and business opportunities," said Mr Lim Hock Chuan, Chief Executive Officer, MDA on Singapore's presence at the Market.
