From music to dance, theatre to film, audiences in London were treated to a kaleidoscope of performances by prominent local Singaporean artistes during Singapore Season, a calendar of events aimed at promoting the cultural and artistic facets of Singapore to overseas audience in London. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA) and its agencies, Singaporean artistes showcased their works at performing arts venues in London between 25 February to 5 April.

To recapture the excitement, sights and sounds of these events for local viewers, Channel NewsAsia (CNA) will broadcast a half-hour documentary that captures the highlights of this special event. A Season of Singapore will debut on 25 April, and bring local viewers through the multi-disciplinary programmes offered as part of Singapore Season, and as seen through the eyes of Singapore’s creative talents and British audiences.

The documentary shows performances by Singapore’s prominent arts companies and artists such as Theatreworks, The Singapore Dance Theatre and local ‘boy band’ of the classics, the T’ang Quartet at major venues in London, like the Barbican Concert Hall, the Institute of Contemporary Arts and the Peacock Theatre of Sadler’s Wells.

The programme will also feature works which reflect a fusion of tradition and modernity. These include Insomnia, a multi-disciplinary programme of films, installations, video and 'live' music curated by Cultural Medallion recipient and TheatreWorks director Ong Keng Sen. Then there is the Singapore Chinese Orchestra’s performance of Calligraphy Concerto, a multi-media concerto devised by and performed with multi-disciplinary artist, Tan Swie Hian.

Said the Media Development Authority's (MDA) Director of Media Content, Ms Amy Chua, “By supporting the documentary, we hope to bring the highlights of the Singapore Season back to Singapore, and to give Singapore viewers a flavour of the vibrancy of Singapore arts, how our artistes performed in London and the impact it had on the British audiences."
