The International Institute for Television Leadership in association with Singapore’s Media Development Authority and Australia’s ScreenWest announced today the creation of the Asia Australia Television Executive Leadership Program. The first course will be held in Western Australia November 17 –22, 2005, immediately prior to the Small Screen, Big Picture Conference (November 23 -25, 2005). The Institute plans for the 2006 program to take place in November in Singapore prior to the Asia Television Forum. In succeeding years, the event would alternate between these two locations.

The International Institute for Television Leadership is presenting The Coming Shake-Out in Television, a one-day conference in Toronto on May 12th, 2005. The Institute will be launching a North American Television Executive Leadership Program in January 2006. Dates for a European Television Executive Leadership Program are being finalized.

The Asia Australia Television Executive Leadership Program (AATELP) is a six-day course that offers a unique blend of disciplined exposure to high-level media industry specific information,
senior-level leadership and management training and personal inventories to better assess individual strengths and weaknesses. The Program provides insights into team building and performance. Specific case studies translate leadership development into applied, real situations in the media.

AATELP is targeted at the next generation of leaders in the world of media and communications: broadcasters, distributors, producers, and senior executives in related service and specialist fields as well as officials in public agencies. The purpose of the Program is to enhance entrepreneurial, strategic leadership and management skills, enable participants to strengthen their organizations and to better meet the challenges of the evolving global marketplace.

Subjects covered in AATELP include strategic thinking and planning, understanding the changing world of television, branding and market positioning, change and innovation management, as well as personal leadership practices.

The principals who developed and created the acclaimed Alliance Atlantis Banff Television Executive Program (AABTEP) have launched the International Institute for Television Leadership, dedicated to the intelligent exploration of industry challenges, strategies and personal leadership practices. They are consultant Jim Byrd, former vice president English Television at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, independent producer Pat Ferns, past Chairman and former president/CEO of the Banff Television Foundation and leadership expert Doug Macnamara, president of Banff Executive Leadership Inc.

While the original AABTEP was targeted at and marketed to the Canadian industry, several leading international executives discovered it and attest to its usefulness and application to the global industry. (A list of these participants is appended below.) Many of the over 200 graduates of AABTEP now occupy key positions in the Canadian and international television industry.
