​Singapore is all geared up to promote its exotic location and excellent post-production and sound recording services to Hollywood filmmakers after its recent successful showcasing at the inaugural Asian Film Market in Busan, Korea.

At the forthcoming American Film Market in Santa Monica, which is rated as one of the top three international film markets, Singapore has been invited as one of the panellists in the Location Expo Seminar to speak about its incentives and schemes to assist international filmmakers and broadcasters in using Singapore as a location for filming.

From 1 to 8 November, the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) will promote its location services at the American Film Market through its newly launched communications strategy known as ""Singapore Media Fusion"" that consolidates and showcases the collective richness and diversity of Singapore media through a coherent and compelling front. Apart from being a one-stop information centre for local and foreign filmmakers who wish to shoot their films in Singapore, MDA also recommends possible filming locations and suitable production support as well as acts as a liaison between the filmmakers and relevant government agencies to facilitate filming.

In addition to MDA’s location services, international filmmakers and broadcasters who wish to shoot in Singapore can also apply for the Film in Singapore! Scheme administered by the Singapore Tourism Board. The most recent example is Bollywood mega production, Krrish which filmed a major part of the movie on location in Singapore.

Commenting on Singapore’s presence in American Film Market, Ms Michelle Lui, Senior Assistant Director, Industry Development, MDA said: “Singapore’s east-meet-west sensibilities rooted in our strong bilingual education enable us to better understand and access key target markets overseas. Hence, apart from participating in Asian film markets, it is also important for us to reach out to the US market and position ourselves as the gateway to the east for Hollywood. “

The Singapore Film Commission (SFC) will also be at the American Film Market to promote Made-by-Singapore films. Following its recent showcasing at the inaugural Asian Film Market, where MDA and SFC jointly fielded a delegation of eight local companies, the SFC will continue to promote local films and upcoming projects to an international audience of buyers, financiers and producers.

In Busan, Rebel Productions and Shooting Gallery Motion Pictures announced a landmark deal for their debut project Untold Beauty with French distributor Wild Side Films. This is the first independent Singapore film to be pre-sold to a major territory, based on a script alone. The film is an eerie yet poignant drama about the trade of embalming.

Producer Mr Juan Foo, of Shooting Gallery Motion Pictures said: “We are thrilled by the overwhelming interest shown in this project. The Asian Film Market in Busan provided an excellent platform for us to secure interest in the film. We now look forward to the American Film Market where we hope to attract distributors and international sales agents for Untold Beauty and other upcoming projects.”
