Thank you for joining us today at the launch of Media Fiesta 2011.
We are excited to be launching the 3rd edition of Media Fiesta. Our first Media Fiesta, in 2009, drew in 75,000 attendees. In 2010, this increased to 100,000. This year, we hope to reach 120,000. We are also running Media Fiesta 2011 as a month long event.
This year’s theme is “Celebrate and Discover Media”. We have special anchor events highlighting music, e-publishing, games and film. We hope that through them, Singaporeans can be inspired by the breadth of Singapore content. Singaporeans have reason to be proud of our homegrown media talents. Despite our small size, our animators, film makers and music makers such as JJ Lin, Stefanie Sun and Tanya Chua have punched above their weight, etching out a name for themselves in international markets.
In fact, tonight, we will get a chance to watch Inch Chua. Inch is the first Singapore solo artist to have performed at the South by Southwest Music Festival, one of the world’s largest music industry events, in Texas, in 2010.
Media Fiesta also seeks to promote the positive use of media. This year, Media Fiesta has a special focus on parental tools to help manage their children’s media consumption habits.
We are most encouraged by our partners who have come forward to support us.
This year, we have more than 70 partners and sponsors, compared with 40 last year. I would like to place on record my thanks to all of you, for your generous and unstinting support.
Finally, I would also like to thank Minister Lui for gracing this evening’s launch. It is now my honour to invite Minister to deliver the keynote address.
