Personal Data Protection

last updated 14 November 2016

Data is the lifeblood of new digital services in a Smart Nation. As citizens’ lives become more connected each day, the need to protect one’s personal data becomes an even more urgent task.

The Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC), established in 2013, plays the main role in administering and enforcing the Personal Data Protection Act in Singapore. Through public education and engagement, it has been leading the Government’s efforts to promote the importance of personal data protection to now supported by consumers.

The PDPC is part of the IMDA. The commission will continue to promote and regulate data protection, as the use of data becomes more pervasive.

This will ensure that public confidence in the private sector’s use of personal data is safeguarded, even as companies increasingly leverage the data they collect as a source of competitive advantage.
