TAS has concluded its investigations into the source of interference on M1's GSM cellular network which occurred on 12 May 1997.
TAS' investigation confirms that the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) wideband signal consistent with SingTel Mobile's CDMA trial signal was transmitted from its Mount Faber station. The signal was found to be in a band partially occupied by M1's GSM network, which resulted in the interference with M1's network.
The interference ceased at about 3.45 p.m. on 12 May 1997 after TAS instructed SingTel Mobile to check its CDMA equipment at Mount Faber. TAS has since suspended SingTel Mobile's CDMA trial at all stations indefinitely until such time that TAS is satisfied that SingTel Mobile has taken appropriate steps to prevent the recurrence of such interference.
Arising from this incident, SingTel Mobile has been warned by TAS to take firm steps to prevent the incident from recurring.
