IDA Leads Singapore Infocomm Companies to IT.COM 2000 in India

Visitors to IT.COM 2000, a mega IT exhibition to be held in Bangalore from 1 to 5 November, will get to learn about the exciting opportunities in Singapore's infocomm industry. From communications and e-commerce solutions to content and data hosting, to interconnectivity and the latest in telecommunications services, the innovative products and services of Singapore companies will be showcased at the Singapore Pavilion at IT.COM 2000.

Visitors to IT.COM 2000, a mega IT exhibition to be held in Bangalore from 1 to 5 November, will get to learn about the exciting opportunities in Singapore's infocomm industry. From communications and e-commerce solutions to content and data hosting, to interconnectivity and the latest in telecommunications services, the innovative products and services of Singapore companies will be showcased at the Singapore Pavilion at IT.COM 2000. With the theme "Singapore- Where the Digital Future is", the Singapore Pavilion is organised by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) with participation from 15 companies and three government agencies.

Singapore companies in the Pavilion include a mix of IT services providers, telecommunications players, and content and infrastructure providers (see Annex A for profile of the companies). Among the companies are key Singapore infocomm players like StarHub, UniG, National Computer Systems, Pacific Internet, Singapore Computer Systems, Singapore Network Services and i-One.Net International. Other companies like DirectRecruitment.com, Growasia.com,InformationTechnologyPark, JTC International,MediaManager,SingaporeExhibition Services will also showcase their products and services. All these companies aim to seek strategic alliances with Indian companies. Participating at this exhibition will give them the exposure as well as the opportunity to meet up with Indian companies of mutual interest.

Joining IDA at IT.COM 2000 are three government agencies - Contact Singapore, National Science and Technology Board, and Singapore Trade Development Board (see Annex A for profile of the agencies). These agencies are also keen to explore working with relevant parties in India, in the areas of manpower, technopreneurship and trade.

Also taking place in India is the inaugural meeting by the India-Singapore Taskforce for Information and Communications Technology, which will be attended by a delegation of MCIT and IDA officials together with industry representatives. The Task Force was formed after the signing of the ICT Memorandum of Understanding between India and Singapore on 30 March 2000 to promote closer co-operation and exchange of information as well as to foster business partnership. The Task Force is co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Singapore, Mr Alan Chan Heng Loon and the Secretary of the Ministry of Information Technology of India, Mr P.V. Jayakrishnan.

In addition, while in India, the Singapore companies will also seek to meet up with Indian companies in Chennai and Bangalore to explore other areas of co-operation.
