Singapore, 17 May 2006 | For Immediate Release

Ms Wu Choy Peng, Deputy Chief Executive (Industry) of IDA Singapore, will be leaving the government service to join the private sector. Ms Wu is also the Government CIO. At IDA, she oversees the infocomm industry development function, the Government Chief Information Office and the digital transformation of key economic clusters.

Ms Wu, a scholar with the then National Computer Board (NCB), started her career in the government service in 1987. She started on projects that looked into the digital transformation of private sector especially in the medical and financial sectors. She subsequently worked on projects like eCitizen and the Public Service Infrastructure (PSi), both of which won many international awards. She was also involved with the Masterplan for IT in Education during a stint in the Ministry of Education as their CIO. Appointed as the IDA's Assistant Chief Executive for Government Services in 2000, Ms Wu led a team of 650 IT professionals, responsible for central planning, policies and implementation of IT systems and infrastructure across government agencies, as well as the specific IT needs of some 35 government agencies. This included developing and implementing long-term masterplans for e-Government in Singapore. She is also responsible for the conceptualisation of current major projects like the Standard ICT Operating Environment (SOE) and TradeXchange. In addition, under Ms Wu, the Government Chief Information Office also began to provide e-Government consultancy to other countries interested in developing their own e-Government.

"Choy Peng has devoted a significant part of her career to the government and her contributions have helped to put Singapore on the world map as a leading e-Government," said Mr Chan Yeng Kit, Chief Executive Officer of IDA Singapore. "IDA wishes to put on record our appreciation to Choy Peng for her work and contributions, and wish her the very best in her new endeavour," he added.

Ms Wu will join Neptune Orient Lines as the Group CIO on 17 July 2006.
