National Infocomm Club Awards

Students at Guangyang Primary are now learning how they can protect domestic animals from abuse with a fun flash animation game they produced. It taught them to be responsible when looking after animals and to give them a comfortable home. Meanwhile, students at the Methodist Girls’ School are using specially-designed infocomm-based lessons and movie clips to teach basic English and computer skills to youths in Cambodia. Then, at Pei Tong Primary School, students are discovering the joy of learning on difficult science subject with the help of interactive resources, such as worksheets, videos and mindmaps, online anytime and anywhere. And, for teachers at Hwa Chong Institution, they are saying good-bye to stacks of files as they now keep records of their academic and CCA performances on a web portal.

For their ingenuity in the use of infocomm, they received today the first-ever National Infocomm Club Awards from RADM (NS) Lui Tuck Yew, Minister of State, Ministry of Education (MOE).

These six winners’ projects are part of the 14 shortlisted for the inaugural National Infocomm Club Awards, organised by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and supported by the MOE.  A total of 74 submissions were received.

Infocomm Club Ambassadors

Apart from getting recognition for their infocomm creativity with the Awards, individual outstanding Infocomm Club members are also recognised for their passion towards infocomm and their strong leadership skills. This year, 16 new Infocomm Club Ambassadors in Primary and Secondary schools have been appointed. The programme started last year with the 13 Infocomm Club Ambassadors appointed.

These Infocomm Club Ambassadors will get to experience infocomm leadership opportunities early as they lead in the planning and execution of Infocomm Club activities amongst the clubs to benefit the larger community beyond schools. They will also work closely with IDA during their one-year term, and get priority for industrial attachments and opportunities to attend major infocomm conferences.

Launched in November 2005, the Infocomm Clubs programme is a joint effort by the IDA and industry partners, with support from the MOE, to groom future infocomm leaders and ensure Singapore establishes itself as the city of choice for global infocomm talent. The programme supports the vision of the national infocomm masterplan, iNtelligent Nation 2015 (iN2015 in short), to create a sustainable pipeline of infocomm workforce to ensure Singapore’s progress into an intelligent nation, powered by infocomm.

There are now 150 Infocomm Clubs serving as a communication and collaboration platform for 7,000 student members to express their innovative, enterprising and community spirit through infocomm. (Please see ‘Factsheet on Infocomm Clubs (26.93KB)’)

Ms Sharon Xu, Teacher, Raffles Institution said, “The Infocomm Clubs programme has assisted the school in generating greater awareness and sustaining interests in infocomm amongst the school population. With a more structured training curriculum, our students are able to interact with other young infocomm talent nationwide, and thus encourage them to practise their skills through projects and competitions.”
