National Infocomm Awards 2010 Winners Unveiled
Thirteen companies were presented Singapore's highest accolade for infocomm innovation, the National Infocomm Awards (NIA), this evening by Mr Lui Tuck Yew, Acting Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, at a gala dinner. The NIA is a platform for recognising innovation in the development of infocomm products and services and in the use of infocomm technology in organisations to enhance operations and businesses.
The winners were picked from nominations that came from a wide-range of sectors and from organisations of different sizes. Winning entries include a pocket-sized ECG device that doubles as a mobile phone (EPI Life), a system that ensures the right dispensing of medication (Closed Loop Medication Management Sytem) and a customer management system that enables guests a seamless experience at an Integrated Resort (Customer, Membership and Services System).
This year saw new start-ups vying for the highest honour by harnessing the latest technologies. The creators of HungryGoWhere, GTW Holdings invested in cloud technology to optimise business operations and improve service provision. Brandtology's Business and Brand Online Intelligence Service employs intelligent analytics, in the realm of social media, to help companies monitor their brand and reputation.
Nominations from the public sector showed that agencies continue to push the envelope in the deployment of infocomm technology to deliver public service to citizens and businesses. In the category of Most Innovative Infocomm Product/Service, the nominations demonstrated the use of new and emerging technologies and many of the services deployed have the potential to scale beyond Singapore to the regional/global markets.
RADM(NS) Ronnie Tay, Chief Executive Officer of IDA and Co-chair of NIA 2010 said, "The panel of judges were very impressed with the quality of this year's nominations and the spirit of innovation was evident in the projects that were shortlisted. We hope that winning the NIA will encourage these organisations to be even more competitive in the global marketplace."
"The ideas and innovation from the nominations showed that the infocomm industry is in good stead. We are proud to see that many of the participating infocomm companies have taken their products and services overseas and how the industry has contributed towards the efficiency and productivity of other sectors," said SiTF Chairman and Co-chair of NIA 2010, Ms Tan Yen Yen.
The list of this year's winners, merit awards recipients and details of the winning projects are found in Annex A (407.36KB). The biennial NIA is jointly organised by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and the Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF). Nominations were evaluated by two evaluation committees and a panel of judges with representation from the infocomm industry. The rigorous and stringent evaluation process considered the following criteria: innovativeness, ease of use, technology used, scale of implementation, market presence and business impact.
