Outstanding ICT Companies Recognised for their Innovations at the ASEAN ICT Awards 2013

14 November 2013 - Eighteen Information and Communication Technology (ICT) companies across ASEAN countries were lauded for their innovations at the second ASEAN ICT Awards (AICTA) ceremony held this evening.

Singapore, 14 November 2013 | For Immediate Release

Eighteen Information and Communication Technology (ICT) companies across ASEAN countries were lauded for their innovations at the second ASEAN ICT Awards (AICTA) ceremony held this evening. Six of them were also crowned Gold recipients in their categories, further raising the bar of innovation, excellence and creativity.

Hosted by Singapore as part of the 2013 ASEAN Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministers Meeting (TELMIN), the Award Ceremony took place in conjunction with the TELMIN Gala Dinner, and was witnessed by ASEAN Telecommunication Ministers, Senior Officials and luminaries in the ICT industry. Held for the second time, the Awards recognise innovative products and services across six categories - Public Sector, Private Sector, Digital Content, Corporate Social Responsibility, Start-up, and Research and Development.

The category of R&D was introduced for the first time this year, to recognise new knowledge, processes, products or services which are in demand by the market but have not been sold commercially yet. The eighteen finalists were picked from more than 80 qualified submissions, and had undergone a stringent and robust evaluation process, by representatives from government and industry experts across ASEAN.

Mr Sheikh Abd Hamdani Bin Dato Paduka Sheikh Haji Abdul Gani, AICTA Project Leader, Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam, said, "AICTA is about bringing out the best ASEAN can offer to the world. It encourages Member State ICT companies to be innovative, to look for competitive edge in the industry, create networking and business ties as well as building confidence especially for those competing with the International Big players in the ICT industry. This year we have seen an increase of 13 entries, giving a total of 84 nominees participating in AICTA. This is a continued sign that AICTA has gained that recognition among the ICT industries and AICTA is only going to get better in years to come. I urge Member States to take time to look at what our own ASEAN products has offered and see the benefits these products can bring to improve the ICT development in the respective region. Lastly on behalf of the AICTA committee in Brunei Darussalam, i would like to congratulate to all the winners of AICTA 2013. You have made your country proud and I wish you good luck in your future endeavours."

The AICTA was first introduced in 2012. Led by Brunei Darussalam, it is one of the key initiatives of the ASEAN ICT Masterplan 2015 (AIM2015) which aims to make ICT a key enabler of social and economic integration in ASEAN as well as promoting innovation and collaboration among government, businesses, citizens and other institutions. The call for 2013 AICTA submissions was open from 1 May 2013 to 1 August 2013. Participants were required to provide a video presentation of their products and services, and were judged by ICT experts from all ASEAN Member States. Shortlisted participants, three from each of the six categories, then presented their products and services in person at a final judging process by ASEAN senior officials and ICT experts held in Yangon, Myanmar on 3 September 2013, where their final standing was decided.

All 2013 AICTA finalists will receive trophies (gold, silver, bronze) as well as opportunities for exposure in ASEAN Member States via ASEAN's communication channels. The 2014 AICTA awards ceremony will be hosted by Thailand.
