Good evening
I am happy to be here with you this evening and even happier to learn that the Pan Asian E-Commerce Alliance has grown in membership from 3 to 8 economies since its inception in year 2000.
Singapore's status as a trading hub dates back to more than a century ago when Sir Stamford Raffles saw the potential of our little island to become an entrepot.
Now 184 years later, one potent ingredient, other than Singapore's unique location puts us in a good position to become a world-class e-Commerce hub. This special ingredient is called connectivity. Connectivity strengthens the ties that Singapore has with many cities around the world - for trade and goodwill. In IDA we see infocomm as a key enabler for trading communities to collaborate to become more productive and efficient.
I am pleased that CrimsonLogic, a home-grown company, is one of the founders of the 3-year old Pan-Asian e-Commerce Alliance (PAA). CrimsonLogic is a fast-growing company in Singapore and some of its developments have won it recognition among the trading community. Take for example, the Cert of Origin project that CrimsonLogic developed with the four chambers of commerce in Singapore. Their achievement is commendable because it helps exporters cut cost, save time and reduce error. The PAA comprises many innovative companies like CrimsonLogic and I am confident that with your technological expertise and resources, the PAA can help companies enjoy the benefits of trading electronically with their counterparts in Asia.
In time to come, I hope that more trading communities around the world will come to value and enjoy uninterrupted cross-border trading through collaboration with the PAA.
With this, I wish you a pleasant evening and a very fruitful 12th PAA Steering Committee meeting in Singapore.
