The Australian High Commission, the Media Development Authority (“MDA”) and Singapore Film Society (“SFS”) are proud to present renowned screenwriter Jan Sardi as the latest distinguished filmmaker to be invited to Singapore under the Media Masterclass Series. This is part of the Celebrate Australia event in March, and a highlight of the Commonwealth Bank Australian Film Festival 2005.
Jan Sardi has won numerous awards for his work in Australia, including Best Screenplay for “Shine” (Australian Film Institute Awards and Australian Writers Guild Awards). He was also nominated for an Academy Award for his screenplay for “Shine”. “Shine” was nominated for 7 Academy Awards in all of the major categories, including Best Film, with Geoffrey Rush winning the Best Actor Award.
In 2003, Jan Sardi wrote and directed “Love’s Brother”, the opening film for this year’s Australian Film Festival. “Love’s Brother” won the Best Film Award at the 2004 Houston International Film Festival, together with the award for Best Director and Best Cinematography. In addition, it won the Grand Prize for Best Film at the Heartland Film Festival Indianapolis 2004. In 2004, it was also nominated for 6 Australian Film Institute Awards including Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay.
In a two hour forum and Q&A discussion, Mr. Sardi will share his wealth of script writing experiences with members of the film industry, media, SFS, film students and the general public. Mr. Kenneth Tan, chairman of the Singapore Film Society, will be the facilitator for this session.
The Australian High Commission, the MDA and SFS also collaborated to present a lecture by Director Scott Hicks (“Shine”) in 2004.
This event will be held at Singapore History Museum Auditorium on 12 March at 10 a.m. The admission for this event will be free, and seats may be pre-registered for on a first-come, first-served basis and seats will be subject to availability.
