Made-By-Singapore:Award Winning Animation, International Romance Dramas & Documentaries

Catch a diverse range of programmes spanning from award-winning animation works and mobile-content to quality and compelling dramas and documentaries in various languages from the Singapore Pavilion at MIPCOM.

CHILDREN’S ANIMATION;DOCUMENTARIES Children’s animation programmes that will be available at MIPCOM are 3 Feet Apart, Nadim’s World, Space Clowns and Planet Bizzaro.

Originating from a short film which won the best Asian Short Animation Film at the 2004 Bangkok Film Festival, 3 Feet Apart is the brainchild of Oak3 Films. The post modern adventure 2D animation series tells the story and the everyday adventures of kids whose physical make-up has been mutated with an electrical appliance.

Another 2D animation series is Nadim’s World, developed by ScreenBox. The series is based on the main character Nadim who has an ultra-high imaginative mind.

Singapore company, Tigon Media has developed a programme, Planet Bizzaro which is a unique cross between puppetry and live-action, utilising state-of-the-art puppets. Also from Tigon is Space Clowns, a new flash animation series about a group of zany, intergalactic clowns who travel through space to stop an evil villain bent on world domination.

Besides animation, documentaries will also be taking centre stage at the Singapore Pavilion, such as Ju Ming and Sense of Danger by Oak3 Films. Ju Ming is about one of the greatest Chinese sculptors living today while Sense of Danger investigates animals’ innate abilities to predict natural disasters.

SINGAPORE TV DRAMAS Other programmes that will be sold at MIPCOM include Chase, a romantic drama starring two of Asia’s hottest celebrities, MTV VJ Utt and Taiwan star Linda Liao. Chase has been sold to Malaysia, Thailand and Japan. It is also in the midst of closing more sales in Asia like the Philippines, Indonesia and Korea.

House of Harmony, which is the first Singapore-Germany co-production, will also be part of the slate of Singapore programmes for sale at MIPCOM. House of Harmony will premiere in Germany on 30 October 2005. The two-parter multi-million dollar telemovie with an international cast is slated for prime-time broadcast on ZDF television –Germany’s main terrestrial broadcaster and is expected to reach more than 15 million viewers. The telemovie has received great interest among the Asian and international media community since it was launched in April at MIPTV 2005 by international distributors, Beta Films and Super Swiss.

MIPCOM’s INAUGURAL TV MOBILE SCREENINGS AND AWARDS

Asia’s first 3G mobile drama, P.S…I Luv U adds another first with its nomination for Best Made for Mobile Content/Format in the MIPCOM Mobile TV Screenings and Awards. Featuring popular Asian stars, P.S…I Luv U is co-produced by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) and MediaCorp Studios. The mobile drama has also been sold to Malaysia and deals are closing with other parts of Asia, including Japan.

Commenting on the TV offerings from the Singapore media companies, Dr Christopher Chia, Chief Executive Officer of the MDA said, “We are delighted that Singapore-made TV programmes have been so well-received by distributors and broadcasters alike. With their interesting and appealing content, coupled with high quality production values, I am confident that our Singapore media companies will put us firmly on the global media map as they continue to secure international​​ distributorships and capture viewers worldwide.”

New programmes and more will be launched at the MDA’s Singapore Networking Cocktail Party to be held on the second day of MIPCOM, 18 October at 4.30pm. It will be held at the Singapore Pavilion, located at Stand 05.20-07.19.

This year, a record turnout of 95 industry participants from 34 Singapore media companies will be part of the Singapore contingent at MIPCOM, most of whom will be housed at the Singapore pavilion led by the MDA. They will be pitching their content to overseas distributors and broadcasters, and exploring collaborative opportunities with global media players.
