MediaCorp TV 5 fined for breaching Programme Code on the episode of Without a Trace

Dated: 9 May 2007

MediaCorp TV5 has been fined by the Media Development Authority (MDA) for airing a kissing scene between two lesbians in an episode of the programme "Without a Trace" on 15 March 2007. This is a breach of the Free-to-air TV Programme Code which specifies that explicit depictions of homosexuality should not be broadcast.

MDA sought MediaCorp TV's explanation for the breach, and was informed that the scene was included as a result of an editing error. Taking into account the breach and MediaCorp TV’s explanation, MDA found that a financial penalty was warranted and issued MediaCorp TV a fine of $5,000, which MediaCorp has since paid.
