Three cool shows to catch this month – one in the cinema, two online on Viddsee – as we celebrate all things Singapore and Singaporean.

1. Crazy Rich Asians
Set against the striking, luscious backdrop of Singapore, Crazy Rich Asians – based on the bestselling novel by Kevin Kwan – is a modern fairytale romance comedy that follows New Yorker Rachel Chu (starring Constance Wu) as she accompanies her long-time boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding), to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore.
Rachel soon learns that she is in for a surprise as it turns out that not only is Nick the scion of one of the country’s wealthiest families, he is also one of its most sought-after bachelors. Though this sounds like a dream come true, being on Nick’s arm puts a target on Rachel’s back with jealous socialites and worse, Nick’s own disapproving crazy rich mother.
Will they overcome all odds, and live happily ever after? Find out when the movie opens in Singapore cinemas on 22 August 2018. (Advance ticket sales start 17 August.)
The film boasts a star-studded cast led by Constance Wu, Henry Golding and Michelle Yeoh. But we know you’ll also be happy to catch familiar local faces like Pierre Png, Fiona Xie and Koh Cheng Mun in the show, as well as significant sights such as Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay.

2. Drive
A day in the life of a taxi driver may sound like some pretty boring and monotonous fare – or perhaps there's something more that will grab your attention meter?
Directed by Don Aravind, Drive follows the life of a retiring taxi driver, Uncle, who has been circling Singapore’s roads for the past 30 years.
The unexpected death of his relief driver forces him to take on the wheel for the last three days of his career – where he meets different passengers each with unique stories and situations.
What are the hidden stories behind each of the interesting characters that he picks up on the road?

3. A Spectacular Sight
Excited about the National Day Parade this year? We sure are!
Whether you are or not, A Spectacular Sight is a Viddsee Original will set you thinking about the true meaning of National Day for Singaporeans and their families.
In this short film directed by Rifyal Giffari, Lynn's dysfunctional family prepares to watch the National Day Parade on 9 August after winning tickets to watch the show, but their plans get derailed when their father suddenly suffers from a heart attack.
What will happen to the family – and what's the fate of the hard-won tickets?
Expect to see a parade of emotions and fireworks that will give you the feels.
