As at 11.00am today, the crossover in Singapore was generally uneventful. There were no reports of major incidents in Singapore arising from the 29 February 2000 Y2K critical date. Said Mr Alan Chan, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and the National Y2K Spokesperson: "From the reports we have gathered, the 29 February 2000 crossover in Singapore's five key sectors: finance, telecommunications, transportation, utilities and healthcare, has generally been smooth."
There was just one minor incident reported by the SMRT Corporation. The date stamped on 10 single-trip tickets issued from the MRT ticket vending machines at the Orchard and City Hall stations after 12 midnight was 1 March 2000 instead of 29 February 2000. The problem has since been rectified and Singapore MRT will continue to monitor the situation closely. Said Mr Alan Chan,” This minor glitch has been quickly corrected and we are confident that the public will not be further inconvenienced."
Added Mr Chan: "Singapore had put in much effort and resources for the 31 December 1999 millennium crossover. As a result, we were well prepared and ready. 29 February 2000 is no exception. We do not expect any major disruptions to arise as the day unfolds. Singaporeans can expect to pass the day smoothly and trouble-free."
