Week-Long Event Gathers Visionaries, Leaders, Businesses and C-Level Decision Makers to Discuss and Experience the Converged Future

The Infocomm Media Business Exchange (imbX), Asia's largest infocomm and media event will take place from 18-22 June 2007 in Singapore. The week-long event will witness the gathering of the international ICT community including visionaries, Government leaders, policy regulators and professionals who will share insights and experience 'Digital Convergence in Reality'.

New conference and forums on emerging Convergent issues and applications are introduced at imbX this year. The New Media Conference will examine the impact of user-generated content and its influence on traditional broadcasters and the media sector. The IPTV Forum will feature insights from operators, technology and content providers on the deployment and marketing of IPTV services in Asia. The Mobile TV Forum will showcase case studies and business models from successful mobile TV trials from different parts of the world, as well as addressing standardisation and content delivery issues.

imbX is also the venue for the meeting of minds with a series of thought leadership forums and inter-government meetings. This year, the list includes the iX2007 Conference, CommunicAsia2007 Summit, BroadcastAsia2007 International Conference, in addition to the imbX Ministerial Conference on ICT and the Asia Pacific Media Regulatory Roundtable.

Incorporating established exhibitions and conferences, imbX continues to serve as an effective, all-encompassing platform where visitors exchange ideas on the Converged Future and network with like-minded peers to seek out new opportunities.

Trade Exhibition Highlights

This year's exhibitions will play host to a combined total of 30 group pavilions. Taking up a total of eight halls at Singapore Expo, 2,320 exhibiting companies will be demonstrating cutting-edge Convergent technologies that are redefining the boundaries of traditionally-segmented telecommunications, networks, enterprise solutions and entertainment arenas.

CG Overdrive (or Computer Graphics Overdrive) will also be held in conjunction with CommunicAsia, EnterpriseIT, InteractiveDME and BroadcastAsia for the first time - a reflection of the exploding interest in animation and demand for made-in-Asia animated content. One of the key highlights of CG Overdrive is a knowledge-centric conference that will address topics such as character animation techniques, character modelling and production of CG cinematics for gamers.

High-definition (HD) TV studio will be a much-anticipated highlight at the show floor this year. The fully-functional 100 square metre studio is equipped with state-of-the-art HD equipment that showcases the end-to-end technology of this emerging new application. It will be integrated and commissioned by Panasonic and Medios Associates with our key leading exhibitors like Network Electronics, Fujinon, Sennheiser, Miranda, Harris, Genelec, Snell & Wilcox and many others.

There will be a hands-on application HD Workshop conducted by renowned industry experts like Rob Draper, Director of Photography, Northern Light Films; and Barry Green, Emmy-Award-winning producer with four Emmy nominations for writing and producing television commercials and public service announcements.

Government-Industry Exchange

For the third consecutive year, imbX will host the Ministerial Forum on ICT Ministerial forum, a closed-door meeting for Ministers and senior government officials throughout the Asia-Pacific and Middle Eastern regions. This year, these dignitaries will discuss the impact of new technologies on socio-economic developments and public policy. The theme will be "Web 2.0: Rise of the Empowered User".

Updates to iN2015

June 2007 marks the one-year milestone for Singapore's ICT master plan, iN2015, which was announced at imbX last year. The iN2015 master plan lays the groundwork for a seamless, secured and intelligent infocomm infrastructure that empowers the various vertical sectors such as healthcare, financial services, tourism, education, media and government with the opportunity to tap into the global networked economy. The master plan seeks to bridge the digital divide, and to create opportunities for all in Singapore, including the elderly, less privileged and people with disability.

"imbX was indeed a fitting platform for us in launching Singapore's 10-year infocomm masterplan in June last year. This year, as we mark the first anniversary of iN2015's launch at imbX 2007, I am happy to share that we are beginning to realise the infocomm benefits of the masterplan," said Mr Chan Yeng Kit, Chief Executive Officer, Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).

Digital Convergence at imbX

imbX cements Singapore's position as the region's premier infocomm and media hub, in addition to being a showcase for new enabling technologies. The yearly event is also an ideal platform for Singapore media companies to tap into the global market. The Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA), which also assumes the critical role in ensuring the vibrant adoption of Convergent technologies within the local media industry, will spearhead the effort with the Singapore Pavilion in BroadcastAsia.

"BroadcastAsia has grown to become one of the world's most important events to showcase innovation in the digital media and broadcast industry. Likewise, Singapore's participation in the event has grown four times and the Singapore Pavilion - our largest to-date - will be a showcase of technologies and applications centred on new and emerging media standards such as HDTV, IPTV and mobile broadcasting. The Media Development Authority of Singapore is pleased to support BroadcastAsia for the 12th year and this will further boost our vision to make Singapore a vibrant marketplace of ideas and business," said Dr Christopher Chia, Chief Executive Officer, MDA.

Thought Leadership

Digital Convergence has made major inroads into the ICT industry in Singapore and throughout Asia. Organised by the Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF), this year's iX2007 Conference (taking place on 20-21 June) reflects the influence of Convergence on the enterprise, with the theme "Convergence, Collaboration and Creativity - Enabling Your Enterprise Infrastructure for Digital Media Delivery". The two-day event will help enterprise IT professionals to better understand the transforming powers of digital media technologies such as podcasting and video streaming, on today's workplace, and its impact in improving communications and operational efficiencies.

"This year's iX conference will continue to serve as an intellectual hotspot where delegates can exchange ideas and views on prevailing infocomm technology and issues affecting businesses in the region. Without a doubt, Digital Convergence has created a paradigm shift for many of us in the industry, and this is an opportune time to analyse the influence of new digital media on the enterprise workplace," said Mr Pek Yew Chai, Chairman of the Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF).

Business Platform

Reflecting the synergistic trend in the infocomm and media industries, visitors to this year's shows will see the full spread of Convergent technologies and applications that will enhance enterprises' mobility and users' lifestyle.

Innovations in key enabling technologies such as Broadband/Wireless, Fixed-mobile convergence, 3G/HSDPA to be showcased at the CommunicAsia exhibition will bring visitors closer to Digital Convergence. Among the technologies taking centre stage at BroadcastAsia will be compelling content geared for non-traditional screen outlets (such as the mobile and other handheld devices); while content leveraging the latest in computer graphics know-how will further enrich the Convergent experience. Enterprises seeking to sharpen their competitive edge can look towards EnterpriseIT for emerging Convergent IT solutions to support staff mobility, enhance network security and optimize operational efficiencies.

"CommunicAsia, BroadcastAsia, EnterpriseIT, InteractiveDME have established a firm reputation as the go-to trade shows for ICT and broadcasting industry professionals looking for the latest, critical technologies that are driving the world forward and changing the way we live. We have built the ideal platform for exhibitors from the telecommunications, broadcasting and the computing industries to showcase their leading-edge enabling technologies on Digital Convergence to the global market," said Mr Stephen Tan, Chief Executive of Singapore Exhibition Services.
