Singapore, 18 March 2011 | For Immediate Release

Singapore will host the 41st Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Public Meeting from 19 - 24 June 2011.  The event will see over 1,000 participants from members of the infocomm establishment worldwide descend on the city-state to discuss issues revolving around the management and coordination of key policy, operational, technical and security issues concerning the Internet.

Mr Leong Keng Thai, Deputy Chief Executive and Director-General (Telecoms & Post) of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and Chairman of the Singapore Network Information Centre (SGNIC), the two organisations hosting the meeting, said, "We look forward to welcoming ICANN Board of Directors and delegates to Singapore.  IDA and SGNIC actively participate in ICANN meetings and are delighted to host this platform for key international discussions about the Internet.  We trust that beyond discussions on infocomm issues, ICANN delegates will also enjoy their time in our dynamic Singapore and experience its vibrant city life."

"The fact that the Internet reaches almost 78 per cent of the population tells us that Singapore understands and appreciates the importance of this remarkable communications network," said Rod Beckstrom, ICANN's President and Chief Executive Officer.

ICANN is a not-for-profit public-benefit organisation dedicated to keeping the Internet secure, stable and interoperable. It promotes competition and develops policy on the Internet's unique identifiers.  It holds three public meetings each year, which are rotated among countries in the five different regions of North America, South America, Asia-Pacific, Europe and Africa and attract over 1,000 participants from the industry and governments.

The 41st ICANN Public Meeting will be held at the Raffles City Convention Centre (RCCC).  The meeting coincides with Infocomm Media Business Exchange (imbX) 2011, Asia's largest infocomm and media business platform, which will provide a conducive backdrop for ICANN delegates' networking opportunities and exchange of ideas.
