Professor Toh Chai Keong to join IDA
Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) is helping to build Singapore as the world's first Smart Nation. To enable the government and private sector to create, build and deliver new services as well as to continuously improve current services, the ability to capture data and manage information seamlessly is vital.
To significantly deepen IDA's engineering and technical capabilities for the Smart Nation Platform (SNP), Heterogeneous Network (HetNet) and many other new initiatives, IDA will be appointing Professor Toh Chai Keong to the newly created role of Assistant Chief Executive - ACE (Engineering & Technology), with effect from 8 September 2014. ACE Toh and other members of the IDA team will design, build and implement HetNet in partnership with our research institutes such as I2R, institutes of higher learning (IHLs) and many industry partners.
ACE Toh will also lead the newly formed Engineering and Tech Group (ETG) of which the current IDA technology group will be a part of. As a globally experienced technologist, ACE Toh will also provide a tech advisory role to Singapore's fast evolving start-up eco-system. He will report to Mr Steve Leonard, the Executive Deputy Chairman of IDA.
ACE Toh is a Singaporean with more than two decades of senior leadership and technology experience across multiple countries including Singapore, the US, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China, serving in roles which include managing key DARPA defence research projects at major US companies such as ALICO Systems and TRW Systems. He has also led technology roadmaps, product development and R&D patents on mobile networking technology.
On the academic front, ACE Toh has been the Chair Professor in various global universities including the University of London, Technical University of Valencia, National Tsinghua University Taiwan and has also been recognized with medals and awards from IEEE and IET for his significant technical contributions. He is also an alumni of Singapore Polytechnic and is well-placed to help groom and mentor young Singaporean engineers.
ACE Toh joins IDA from Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) where he was a Professor and Programme Director (Telematics).
