Singapore Broadcasting Authority Commissions the Telecast of the Opening of the Singapore Youth Festival 2002

Dated: 5 September 2002

The Singapore Broadcasting Authority (SBA) has commissioned the telecast of this year's opening of the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) held at the National Stadium.

An annual event in Singapore's school calendar that is organised by the Ministry of Education, the SYF celebrates the dynamism and creativity of our youth as it provides a platform for schools to showcase their multifarious talents and abilities in areas beyond the academic.

This year, the SYF Opening features the highly competitive Marching Band competition with four bands from five secondary schools vying for the much-coveted title of 'Best Display Band of the Year' award. Also included are two Mass Dance Display items. The first is by 600 girls from CHIJ (Toa Payoh) and CHIJ St Theresa's Convent, choreographed to the inspiring music of Iskandar Ismail. The second is performed by Temasek Secondary School which combines dance and aerobics. For the parade segment, the SYF features for the first time a lady parade commander from Raffles Junior College.

This one-hour programme will be telecast on Sunday, 8 September 2002 at 10pm on Arts Central.
