Singapore-made TV programmes take the stage at MIPCOM 2003

Dated: 3 October 2003

The sights and sounds of Singapore-made television programmes will make themselves heard and seen in France, when a team of 19 Singapore media companies participate in one of the world's biggest and most prestigious trade shows.

The Media Development Authority (MDA) and four Singapore media companies will set up a Singapore Pavilion at MIPCOM 2003, an annual event where content and programming for the global TV audience are showcased and traded. This year's high-profile international TV market will be held in Cannes, France from 10 to 14 October 2003 and is expected to attract more than 10,000 TV industry professionals.

The Singapore delegation at MIPCOM is the third that the MDA is leading. It will be housed at the Singapore Pavilion at the MIPCOM venue at Cannes' Palais des Festivals.

Visitors to the pavilion at Stand 05.11 will get updates on Singapore's local media industry, MDA and programmes produced by media companies Dream Forest Productions, Gateway Entertainment, Media Corporation of Singapore and Peach Blossom Media. These companies will showcase their diverse range of largely unique Asian content, from exciting animation works and documentaries to quality and compelling dramas targeted at the international TV market.

Said the MDA's Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lim Hock Chuan, "MIPCOM 2003 has always been an important platform for the Singapore media industry to reach out to the international market. We want to showcase the very wide range, diversity, quality and colour of Made-by-Singapore content to an international audience, and MIPCOM 2003 provides an excellent platform for us to do so.

"The event is also a precursor to the Asia Media Festival 2003 which will be held in the first week of December in Singapore. This is a must-attend event where thousands of executives from the TV, film and animation industries gather in Sentosa to network, source for new media products and close deals."

Singapore's participation at MIPCOM 2003 comes hot on the heels of other MDA-led delegations to New Zealand, IBC Amsterdam and the Hong Kong Film Mart over the last two months. These complement the MDA's other initiatives to transform Singapore into a Global Media City as outlined in the recently launched Media 21 blueprint. Media 21 aims to position Singapore as Asia's leading media marketplace and financing hub, producing high quality content and digital media development.
