Students Engage in "War of Words" In Tamil Debate Series

The secondary school Tamil debate series Sorkkalam 2005 (War Of Words) is back. Commissioned by the Media Development Authority (MDA), the series, into its fifth year, aims to showcase local students' oratorical skills and promote the use of the Tamil language. 

Come 6 August, tune in as some of the best school teams battle for the top prize as they debate thought-provoking and current issues. The first semi-final will see Cedar Girls Secondary School, the proposition team, pitting their skills against Commonwealth Secondary School, the opposition team. They will debate the motion ‘Unlike their parents, youth today are not able to achieve success easily.’ In the second semi-finals, Raffles Institution will face off CHIJ Saint Theresa’s Convent over the motion ‘Censorship is not necessary for a developed country like Singapore.'The eventual winner from each semi-final will then vie for the championship title in the grand final.

Organised by the People’s Association Indian Activity Executive Committees and produced by Megastar Advertising Pte Ltd, Sorkkalam 2005 will debut on Vasantham Central from 6 August at 7pm, with the final telecast on 20 August.
