Eric Khoo's "My Magic" is Singapore's submission to the Academy Awards

Singapore, 05 Sep 2008 –Highly anticipated local feature film, MY MAGIC –directed by award-winning Eric Khoo, has been chosen by the Singapore Film Commission (SFC) as Singapore's official entry to the Academy for Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences' Best Foreign Language Film Award.

The world premiere of MY MAGIC was held at the Cannes Film Festival in May this year. The story about a complex relationship between a father and son, addresses issues of love, life, family ties, redemption and magic. The film competed with nineteen other feature films in Cannes for the prestigious Palme d’ Or Award, the top award for feature films, at the renowned festival.

"MY MAGIC’s touching storyline made it the SFC Board members’ unanimous choice this year. It is a testament to our burgeoning film industry's capabilities and a fitting submission to the Academy," said Mr Kenneth Tan, Director, SFC and the Media Development Authority of Singapore’s Chief Operating Officer.

The SFC's call for entries to the Academy Awards closed on 4 August 2008, after which the submissions were evaluated by the SFC Board Members.

The nominees for the 81st Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will be announced on 22 January 2009, with the awards ceremony to be held on 22 February 2009 at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.

MY MAGIC, produced by Zhao Wei Films, will be opening in Singapore on 26th September. It stars Bosco Francis, a real-life magician, and Jathishweran, a 14-year-old student. The movie is distributed by Golden Village Pictures.
