$82 million in RTV Licence Fee Refunds Completed Ahead of Time

Dated: 26 April 2011

The Media Development Authority (MDA) has successfully completed the 2011 Radio and TV (RTV) licence fees refund exercise, ahead of its 30 April 2011 target. In total, 1.1 million cheques were mailed out in a nationwide exercise, between 22 March 2011 and 25 April 2011, to any licensee who had paid his 2011 RTV licence fee in advance, prior to the abolition of the RTV licence.

The cheques were mailed out in batches to households, non-residential TV licensees (such as hotels, offices, food and beverage outlets and retail outlets that have TV sets), vehicle owners, and dealers engaged in the import or sale of any broadcasting apparatus.

Cheques were made out in the licensee’s name registered with the MDA. For licensees who have paid their 2011 TV licence and vehicle radio licence fees, their refund amounts were consolidated into one cheque for convenience.

To date, 70 per cent of licensees have already presented/encashed their cheques. For those who have yet to do so, MDA would like to remind them to deposit their cheques into their bank account within six months of the cheque issuance date.

MDA would also like to invite any licensee who has yet to receive a refund of their 2011 RTV licence fee payment, to call its customer service hotline at 1800-478-5478.

Licensees with outstanding fees are reminded to settle their payment at any AXS Station or MDA Online (http://mdaonline.mda.gov.sg).
