Companies with machine learning and big data analytics technologies clinched top honours at National Infocomm Awards 2016

16 winners from both private and public organisations received the National Infocomm Awards organised by the newly formed Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF).

Singapore - 10 November 2016: How do online merchants prevent fraud and chargeback risks from customers that will result in costly losses? By using CashShield. How do 2.2 million commuters who make 3.8 million bus trips daily enjoy better bus services? With the Project Land Transport Real-time Info@SG (POLARis). These were two of the award-winning technological solutions developed by the winners of the National Infocomm Awards (NIA) which were given out this evening.

Jointly organised by the newly formed Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF), the NIA is Singapore’s highest accolade for infocomm innovation. 16 winners from both private and public organisations received the coveted awards from Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Communications and Information at the Awards Ceremony.

The winners were selected from 179 submissions, and were recognised for their spirit of innovation and excellence as they developed cutting-edge technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence and big data analytics.

In the category of the “Most Innovative Infocomm Product/Solution”, CashRun Pte Ltd took home top honours for CashShield – a real time fraud prevention solution using a unique financial risk management algorithm. What sets CashShield apart from other traditional fraud detection solutions is that CashShield eliminates the need for manual reviews while removing hard rules. CashShield thus lowers the cost of managing fraud, increases business potential, and reduces fraud and chargebacks.

For the category of “Most Innovative Use of Infocomm Technology (Public Sector),” the Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA) clinched the top award for their Project Land Transport Real-time Info@SG (POLARis). POLARis has allowed commuters to enjoy better level of bus services in Singapore, achieved by data analytics, a centralised Common Bus Fleet Management System covering 5,400 public buses, and Real-Time Situational Awareness for Improved Responses. It has benefited 2.2 million commuters on 3.8 million bus trips daily. This is the LTA’s third time winning the NIA.

Jurong Port Pte Ltd (JP) won for the “Most Innovative Use of Infocomm Technology (Private Sector - Open)” for their solution Smart Gate – an integrated one-stop gate processing solution for a multipurpose port. The Smart Gate integrates various technologies to address the unique challenges of a multipurpose port. The solution enables JP to reduce manpower and supply chain bottlenecks by reducing the processing time at the gate by as much as 61% through automation, among many other features. Port users benefit from smoother customer experience without compromising security.

The “Most Innovative Use of Infocomm Technology (Private Sector - SME)” was won by Concorde Security Pte Ltd for its I-Man Facility Sprinter, a mobile command and control centre equipped with advanced monitoring and wireless communications equipment managed by a team of 3 Intelligent-Man (I-Man). The integrated solution is more secure and robust despite requiring fewer officers with a central monitoring solution that allows resource sharing and providing services to 10 or more buildings. It is able to achieve high productivity gain of more than 300% and hence, improve service delivery to the clients. This solution will change the way security services will be delivered in the future.

Mr Gabriel Lim, Chief Executive Officer, IMDA said, “We’re excited by the quality of the submissions and the level of innovation displayed at this year’s NIA. The winning submissions clearly reflect the capabilities in the Singapore tech landscape, and the effective use of new technologies like machine learning and data analytics. IMDA is excited to support all companies to harness ICM to grow and thrive in this digital economy.”

SiTF Chairman Mr. Saw Ken Wye said, “We are pleased to see the winners of the NIA awards showcasing innovation that help to increase productivity and improve the user experience. They are the leaders in driving the digital transformation in Singapore, demonstrating how business processes and customers’ interactions can change through the use of applications and data. These are areas in which Singapore has been investing and shaping, and complements our drive towards building a smart nation of the future.”

Jointly organised by IMDA and SiTF, the NIA is a biennial event that recognises organisations that have exemplified the spirit of innovation, in their development of new infocomm products or services, or their use of infocomm technology to achieve excellence. Nominations were evaluated by two evaluation committees and a panel of judges. In this eighth edition, the criteria for the evaluation process included innovativeness, the technology used, ease of implementation, business impact, market presence, potential and contribution to empowering the nation, businesses and talent, which are all key to Singapore’s Smart Nation vision.
