General Election 2025: Party Political Broadcasts

SINGAPORE – 16 APR 2025

1. The General Election will be held on 3rd May 2025. The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has allocated airtime on free-to-air television and radio for political parties to deliver their campaigning messages during two Party Political Broadcasts (PPBs).

2. Political parties that field at least six candidates under a recognised party symbol are eligible for PPBs. Independents and political parties fielding fewer than six candidates are not eligible for the PPBs.

3. Only a member of a political party who is standing for elections as a candidate can deliver campaigning messages during a PPB.

4. There will be two PPBs. Each PPB will be transmitted once on television and once on radio:

  • 1st Broadcast: 25th April 2025; and
  • 2nd Broadcast: 1st May 2025.

5. The duration of airtime allocated for each political party will be based on the number of candidates fielded by it. The allocated airtime will be the same for both PPBs for each political party.

6. The order of the PPBs on television and radio will be determined by the number of candidates fielded by the parties, starting first with the party fielding the least number of candidates, and ending with the party fielding the largest number of candidates.

7. The PPBs must comply with all applicable codes of practice for television and radio. This includes ensuring that the content of the PPBs presents references to race and religion accurately and in a dignified manner. In addition, the content of PPBs should, not be slanted by exclusion of facts or by misleading emphasis, and should not be defamatory or criminal in nature.

8. Political parties may deliver their campaigning messages during PPBs in all or any of the four official languages i.e. English, Mandarin, Malay, Tamil. It is not compulsory to deliver their campaigning messages in all four official languages. The content must be the same for all language versions of a PPB.

9. Political parties must provide their own scripts for all the languages that they intend to speak in. Where the script for a particular language is not provided, the political party will not be allowed to deliver its campaigning message in that language.

10. The IMDA will hold a briefing session on the PPBs on 16th April 2025 at 5pm at Mediacorp (1 Stars Ave, Singapore 138507). Each political party may send up to two representatives to attend the session. IMDA has reached out to the political parties to inform them of the briefing.

11. For any clarifications, political parties or their representatives can email eld_aro@imda.gov.sg.
