Such licensees need only pay an initial one-time licence fee of $10,000 instead of $50,000; and a flat $5,000 annual recurrent fee instead of an annual recurrent fee set at 1% of annual gross turnover.

TAS will, with immediate effect, reduce the licence fees for its Satellite Uplink/Downlink licensees1 and Terrestrial Telecommunication System licensees2 who carry only broadcasting services3. Such licensees need only pay an initial one-time licence fee of $10,000 instead of $50,000; and a flat $5,000 annual recurrent fee instead of an annual recurrent fee set at 1% of annual gross turnover.
The fee revision is part of TAS' regular policy reviews, with the aim to help ensure Singapore remains attractive and competitive as a broadcasting and media hub. TAS will also increase the duration of the Satellite Uplink/Downlink licence, currently set at an initial period of 5 years with renewal on a 3-yearly basis thereafter, to an initial period of 10 years with a renewal period of 5 years thereafter. This is to provide a further element of stability and predictability for these licensees' operations and longer-term planning. The licence duration for the Terrestrial Telecommunication System is already set at an initial period of 10 years, with renewal on a 5-yearly basis thereafter.
The licensees who will benefit from the fee reduction include SIM Communications (SIMCOM), Asia Broadcast Centre, ST Teleport and Walt Disney Television (Singapore). The annual savings to the licensees is $105,000.

Satellite uplink refers to the transmission of broadcast signals from a local earth station to a satellite in space. Satellite downlink refers to the reception of broadcast signals from a satellite in space by a local earth station.
2 The Terrestrial Telecommunication System licence permits the licensee to establish a terrestrial-based telecommunication system for the purposes of providing broadcasting services.
3 Broadcasting services refers to the provision of homogeneous and non-discriminatory television, video and audio broadcast signals.
